Important Upcoming Dates

• Children in Need Day – Friday 14th November
  Pupils are invited to come to school wearing Pudsey-themed or spotty clothing in support of Children in Need. Activities will be taking place in classrooms throughout the day. Donations to the charity will be collected on the day.
• Remembrance Day – Tuesday 11th November
  Class 2 will be taking part in a special act of remembrance, observing a 2-minute silence at Llanfechain Church.
• Parents’ Evening – Wednesday 19th November
  Our rescheduled Parents’ Evening will take place on this date. Appointment schedules will be sent out next week.
• Christmas Play Performances – Thursday 4th December
  There will be performances both in the afternoon and evening. More details, including costumes etc. will be confirmed soon.
• Christmas Carols – Monday 15th December
  Join us a the local shop for a lovely selection of festive songs and music to celebrate the season.
• Christmas Party – Wednesday 17th December
  A fun-filled day of games and celebrations for all pupils.
• Annual Pantomime Trip – Thursday 18th December
  We’re excited to be heading to Theatr Clwyd to watch Cinderella.  Permission forms will be sent out in December.
• Last Day of Term – Friday 19th December
  School will close for the Christmas holidays at the usual time.

A gentle reminder that the AfterSchool Club no longer runs on a Friday.  Please may we also request that pupils are collected prior to the closing time of 5:30pm to enable the supervising staff to finish on time and return to their own families.   We’re looking forward to a fantastic half-term full of learning, creativity, and festive cheer. Thank you for your continued support, and please keep an eye out for further updates and reminders as we get closer to these special events.

Thank you to our Amazing Community

We would like to extend our thanks to you for the generous food donations brought in by the children to support the local foodbank.

The collection took place on the day of our Harvest Festival at Llanfechain Church, where pupils shone brightly as they shared their Harvest poems, prayers, and beautiful singing. It was a wonderful celebration of community and kindness.

We would also like to thank Llanfyllin Bingo Club for their generous donation towards resources to enhance our exterior window frames. Your support helps us continue to create a warm and welcoming environment for our pupils.

Gentle Reminders

• As the weather becomes colder, please ensure your child brings a warm coat to school each day.
• Pupils should arrive at school between 8:50am and 9:00am.
• If you wish to drop your child off before 8:50am, please use the Breakfast Club via the hall entrance so that children can be signed in safely.
• Registration is taken at 9:00am with assemblies/lessons starting 9:05am

Healthy Bites, Happy Minds

As a Healthy School, we encourage children to bring fruit snacks from Monday to Thursday.
On Fridays, pupils may bring a snack of their choice (within reason), but we kindly ask that this does not include sweets or high-sugar items.

Thank you for supporting our ongoing commitment to healthy eating and wellbeing.

We would like to alert families to an important online safety issue concerning a series of books by Andrew Cope (Spy Dogs, Spy Pups, and Spy Cats, published by Puffin).

These books reference a web address for tie-in material; however, the domain has expired and has been purchased by another party. The current website contains highly explicit content.

Please check your child’s reading books and remove any that include this web address.

After School Club Update

After the half-term break, our After School Provision will operate Monday to Thursday only. The Friday session has been removed until further notice due to low uptake.

The Governing Body will be reviewing the charges for both the Breakfast Club and After School Club next half term.
It is likely that there will be a price increase starting in 2026.  Further details will be shared with families once the review is complete.

 Attendance Matters

We would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the importance of good attendance.

Our school’s attendance figures have declined over the last three years, and we are keen to work together to turn this around. Powys County Council has set a target of 94%, and with your continued support, we are confident we can achieve it.

Every day in school counts, for learning, friendships, and personal growth.

Autumn Adventures in the Community Garden

We warmly invite parents, guardians, and children to the Montgomeryshire Wildlife Garden Project Celebration on Saturday 18 October from 10:00am to 12:30pm. Come and enjoy pumpkin soup, a warm campfire, and a chance to celebrate our wildlife garden together. Please stay with your children, dress for colder weather, and note that drinks will be provided. We look forward to seeing you there.

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are delighted to invite you to our Harvest Festival Service on Thursday 2nd October at Llanfechain Church, starting at 9:30am.

The children will be leading the service with songs, poems, and prayers, and we are also pleased to welcome our Chaplain, Mr Mark Hackney, who will be sharing a reflection on the theme of Harvest.

As part of our celebration, we kindly ask for donations of non-perishable food items. These can be brought in by the children and left at the church, ready for collection by the Local Foodbank, to support families and individuals in need within our community.

We very much hope you will be able to join us for this special occasion as we gather together to give thanks and to share with others.

We know that the admissions process can feel like a big step, whether your child is joining Ysgol Llanfechain for the very first time or preparing to move on to secondary school. To help you feel confident and supported, we’ve gathered the key dates and information you’ll need.

Primary School Applications
If your child was born between 1 September 2021 and 31 August 2022, the Primary School Admission Round opens on Wednesday 1 October 2025.
Applications should be made online here: Applying for a School Place
The deadline for applications is Thursday 15 January 2026.

Secondary School Applications
For our Year 6 pupils moving on to the next phase of their journey, the Secondary Common Offer Date is Thursday 16 April 2025.

 Secondary School Open Evening
To support families in making their choices, Llanfyllin Secondary school is holding an Open Evening on Thursday 9 October from 6–8pm.
This is a fantastic opportunity to:

• Tour the school and see the facilities
• Meet staff and ask questions
• Get a feel for the school community and what life will be like for your child

We encourage all Year 6 families to attend if possible, it’s a valuable step in helping you make the best decision for your child’s future.

Friends of the School Update

Tuesday 16th September Meeting Notes

Thank you for those that were able to attend the Friends meeting on the 16th. If you were unable to attend, don’t worry there will plenty of opportunities to get involved with the events and planning over the next academic year. 

We are always looking for volunteers to help out at events or to help with the planning, but we understand it can sometimes be hard to find the time, any support from stacking a few chairs when a performance finishes to supplying a cake for a bake sale is greatly appreciated by the school staff. As is the time taken to attend events and all the donations made at them. 

Here are some of the key points that were discussed in the meeting.

Joining Friends & Keeping Updated with Activities

• Last academic year you helped us raise £2000 for the school. Thank you!
• A new Friends WhatsApp group was set up for this academic year; to join the group you need to complete an online form. You can access it here, or via the QR Code. The QR code will also be displayed at school.
• In the group we will share upcoming activities and requests for support through either volunteering or donations. 
• Next meeting will be held at the start of 2026.

Events Calander

• A list of proposed events can be found below. Further details will be sent out prior to the event.
• Tuck Shop – Daisy has kindly volunteered to keep the tuck shop running, they will be held on the first Friday of each month from 3:15 to 4:15.
• Dragon Bags – Rebecca has volunteered to organise dragon bag collections again this year. They will be the last Wednesday of each term. We are also close to receiving an outdoor collection bin, which will allow donated clothing to be dropped off more frequently. 
• Carols in the Village – As this year’s Christmas service will be held in the church; we will swap raising money through selling Teas & Cake to organising a raffle instead. This was very successful in the past with donated prizes including meals out, hair dressing vouchers and spa vouchers. 
• Booka Visit – Rebecca has kindly offered to look into organising another Booka visit.
• Tabletop Sale – Cat has kindly offered to look into running a tabletop sale in the village hall. Raising money for the school buy selling table spaces to anyone looking to do a bit of a clear out after Christmas.
• School Holidays – Lucie and Daisy will be looking into activities we could run in the village in the school holidays. If anyone has any ideas or would like to help organise a event, please reach out to them.
• Hedgehogs – After the success of the visit from the Hedgehog rescue at the start of the year, it was decided to look at releasing more rescued Hedgehogs into the school grounds, and to also raise money for a wildlife camera for pupils to view their nocturnal activities.

This calendar is a list of suggested events and may change, please also feel free to propose events that you would like to run.
